This morning the Sisters from the Philippines led us in prayer, presenting a video from their country, highlighting the situation of the children. At the end we meditated on a picture by the Philippine artist Joey Velascos (2005), “The Hope Repast”, in which Jesus shares a meal with the street children. Afterwards, we paid homage to Sr. Ursula Hopfensitz on the occasion of her birthday. This was done in African style, because she had been a missionary in Tanzania for many years.
One part of the morning was dedicated to a participative deepening of the results from yesterday’s reflections. The delegates pointed out the ideas and tendencies that had repeatedly emerged as important for the mission of the Congregation during the next six years.
For the rest of the morning we went back to our groups to reflect on and discern about the Priorities for Mission that God is indicating for our future.
In the afternoon we returned to the plenary session to share the reflections of the groups. Each group presented one possible priority. We then had time to reflect, deepen and clarify the concepts that appeared in the possible priorities, such as: dialogue with other religions, as well as with non-believers and among Christians, culture, the meaning of “competence” and the credibility of our Salvatorian Religious Life.
All this content will be considered for the elaboration of the priorities that will be defined in the coming days.
At the end of our sessions we were given an overall vision of the steps to be taken next week, and we evaluated this first half of the Chapter. We concluded our work with a celebration of the Eucharist presided by Fr. Piet Cuijpers.
