This morning we began our work in the chapter room, which had already been prepared by the Sisters from Austria to lead us in morning prayer. As we are to begin the process of election of the General Council, they invited each of us to write a personal gift/talent that we bring and take that piece of paper, together with a candle lit from the Easter Candle, to form the initials SDS on the floor in the middle of the room. This gesture helped us to pray that the Holy Spirit confirm our gifts so they may be dedicated to the service of the Kingdom of God.
Afterwards the Sisters took time in plenary session to reflect, discuss and vote on the method to be used for the election of General Councilors.
For the rest of the morning and all afternoon, we worked in our proposal commissions.
Today we said good-bye to our Sisters Brigitte Thalhammer and Dominika Zelent, intepreters from the Austria Unit, who helped is with simultaneous translations. We welcomed Father Adam Teneta, SDS (Poland) and Sr. Ulrike Musik, SDS (Austria) who will substitute for them until the end of the Chapter.
For Mass we were graced with visits from Father Milton Zonta, SDS, a member of the General Coordination of the Society, who has arrived in Rome to assume his post. Also present were three members of the Executive Board of CLAR (Latin American Religious Conference): Fr. Ignacio Madera, SDS (Colombia) and Sr. Maris Bolzan, SDS (Brazil) who by chance are in Rome these days for diverse meetings.
Thus we concluded this day, American Thanksgiving Day, with the Eucharistic Celebration presided by Fr. Paul Portland, SDS, with special emphasis on our gratitude to God for all His gifts.
