This morning the Sisters from Belgium led us in a beautiful mediation on the meaning that we Salvatorians give to Solidarity. We did this by holding hands and forming a big circle in the chapter room. The globe which had belonged to our Founder, Fr. Jordan, was then passed from hand to hand, while we sang the mantra: “Solidarity for life, Solidarity for hope”. Our solidarity, then, must embrace the world and all people, as the charism inspires us to do.
Afterwards, we paid homage to Sr. Rani Fernando on the occasion of her birthday, and then we went to our small groups to work on the Proposals.
In solidarity with the Sisters of the Rome Region, we participated in the 10 AM funeral rites for Sister Aura Gulyás, who died on Sunday, November 26.
At the beginning of the afternoon session, S. Therezinha Rasera paid a special tribute of thanks to S. Isabel Tooda for her service to the Congregation as General Secretary for the last 5 years. She also announced the new General Secretary: S. Grace Mary Croft and the General Treasurer: S. Martha Gloria Mesa Garcés.
We spent the rest of the day in plenary session analyzing and discussing administrative subjects. We concluded the day with a prayer for all the Sisters who had died since the last General Chapter.
Today we also would like to publicly thank the many Sisters who worked silently and efficiently here, and in their Units, for the preparation and realization of this Chapter. We are grateful to the interpreters for their tireless efforts as channels of communication among us. In the gallery you will find photos of these marvelous people who worked before, during and certainly will continue to work after the Chapter on the translation of the many documents!
