The new mission in Guatemala was started on September 8, 2016 in collaboration with the Salvatorian Fathers who have two places in a little town where they live and work, Saint Paul and Saint Sebastian in the diocese of Saint Mark.
After three months of preparation, Sr. María Jovelina Oliveira from Brazil Santa Catarina, Sr. Vera Lucia Palermo, from Brazil São Paulo, Sr. Elizabeth Segleau from the USA and Sr. Yenfa Cira Palacios from Colombia came to Guatemala, accompanied by Sr. Luz Marina Prada, provincial superior of Colombia and Sr. Nubia Zapata, councillor, from Colombia.
From September to December, 2016, the sisters took time to learn more deeply about the culture of Guatemala, the ministries of the Salvatorian Fathers and the diocesan pastoral plan.
Now the sisters are inserted into the pastoral realities. They are participating in various diocesan meetings, in Biblical formation for lay people at the diocesan center, in the parishes and also in rural areas. They visit the local communities, animate the Lay Salvatorians and do vocation promotion and pastoral work.
Sr. Jovelina and Sr. Yenfa Cira travelled to say goodbye and to wish many blessings for Orquidia Menchu in Quetzaltenango. Orquidia has now travelled to Colombia to begin the formation program of the Sisters of the Divine Savior. She is the second woman to enter from Guatemala.
